Knoxville News Sentinel

PPMWS worked with Local 14351 on a new successor agreement with the Knoxville News Sentinel. We were able to work out a deal that would extend the current contract two years, which was big deal as the company has been looking for only one year deals in the past. The new contract will call for wage increases in both years one and two, improvements to the STD plan, the addition of LTD and the addition of Company match in the 401K plan.

CWA Local 3102 Merges with Local 14309

The Printing Sector has been working with CWA Local 3102 on their recent merger with Local 14309. During this time, we have been working on adding four new print shops. We were been able to pick up two additional members since the merger and are also working on organizing another. The new Local is very interested in growing the print division and has been very active. The overall merger will benefit the membership.

Atlanta Typographical Local 14320

Through my role as Trustee for the Atlanta Typographical Union Local 14320, we are getting closer to finalizing the process of merging the Local with CWA Local 3250, where we previously merged the Atlanta Mailers. Local 3250 now has a Print division and is ready to represent these new members. We have been working on setting up a new Trust for an old health & welfare fund that has been stagnant for many years, and are working through the legalities on how the funds can be used.

Blade Successor Agreement

PPMWS has been working with Local 14503 on negotiations with the Blade on a new successor agreement. The company has been looking to change the medical coverage, gain flexibility that wouldn’t guarantee full-time hours in a workweek, along with many other unrealistic proposals. We are working towards getting a fair and reasonable contract for our members.

PPMWS represents over 8,000 workers in a diverse range of occupations in daily newspapers, commercial printing and mailing operations, graphic design, specialty manufacturing, publishing and distribution as well as the U. S. Government Printing Office. Our union combines the proud heritage of the International Typographical Union-the oldest continuously operating union in America-with the dynamic vision of the Communications Workers of America. The combination of these two influences provides our members and their families with responsive representation and progressive programs.
