Steve DeIanni, PPMWS Rep.

Salt Lake City Mailers CWA Local 14759

The Salt Lake City Mailers, Local 14759 has continued their negotiations with the Utah Media Group. Since our initial meetings we have seen some improved progress at the bargaining table that triggered movement by the company on potential better Grievance and Arbitration language, improved return-to-work language/requirements, a possible trainer differential, and some housecleaning items. We are set to meet again in mid-June to resume bargaining and are still pressing the company for better economics within the unit.

Duluth Mailers CWA Local 14733

The Duluth Mailers, Local 14733 is still in negotiations with the Duluth News Tribune and the Superior Telegram, which are both owned by the same company. During our negotiations, we have learned that the Company will be moving the operation for the Superior Telegram into the same facility as the Tribune, which triggered new negotiation topics on any potential changes to the member’s work, etc. In addition, we are working though language on a new PTO system with the Tribune where the company is proposing to combine the vacation and sick leave into one paid-time-off system. We are looking to keep minimal change/impact from the old systems and will be proposing a package that would benefit the membership without any structural changes.

CWA Local 14320 to Merge With Local 3250

Local 14320 is continued to be under Trusteeship and is working towards finalizing a merger into Local 3250 in the Atlanta area that would provide better representation to the membership of the Local in many ways. Local 3250 has recently created a Print Division within their Local to service all print shops/newspapers after their previous merger of Local 14322 and is fully prepared to take in these new members.

CWA Locals 14631 and 14635 to Merge with Local 6171

Both Locals 14631 and 14635 have voted to merge into CWA Local 6171, which will provide better representation to the membership in that area. We are working towards creating a similar structure within the new Local as we did with 3250 that will have a new division that will represent our print sector membership in the surrounding area. In addition, Local 14631 recently signed new agreements with American Graphics, Stich N’ Tyme, and Golden Rule getting the membership improved working conditions and contract protections.
